Horizon was born amidst the turbulence of a war which caused untold suffering and pain to the thousands of innocent lives who were caught in the cross fire. So, bringing all those lives back to normalcy and peace became the main purpose for the founders of Horizon and it led to formation of an organization whose entire operations was focused on Post Conflict Environment Management. Subsequently, Horizon also stepped into Landmine and UXO clearance operations.
This led to the foundation of HORIZON as an Organisation for Post-conflict Environment Management, with the acronym, HORIZON (OPCEM). Horizon (OPCEM) is the first Indian NGO by, of, and for Indian Ex-Servicemen, dedicated to Post Conflict Environment Management with core competence in Humanitarian Demining.
Founded by retired officers of the Indian Army in 2001, the central idea was to introduce demining, as it could easily be executed by ex-servicemen, who are already trained for this as military engineers. Even though the task was replete with risks, it was felt that an Indian soldier with their dedication, experience, and resilience will be able to execute demining tasks efficiently and hence, generate a lot of goodwill.
Horizon OPCEM recognizes the exceptional potential that soldiers acquire during their service and believes that it ought to be utilized towards humanitarian pursuits, while offering them the opportunity to reinvent themselves and improve their quality of life.
Horizon Assignments (India) Pvt Ltd was founded in 2003 as an adjunct to Horizon OPCEM with a view to realizing its objectives of service to humanity and supporting its funding. The organization initially focused on Humanitarian Demining.
Today, the HORIZON Group is a multifaceted global organization with projects spanning a number of countries and offers around 2/3rds of all types of demining services.
Horizon is now an India-operating global name, which has been recognized by the United Nations as well as the Parliament of India. Our facilities have been visited by many influential leaders such as Late Former Foreign Minister Dr. Sushma Swaraj. The Horizon Group has also received a national award from the Late former Indian president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Among the vast range of its services, Horizon is working in the areas of land surveying, non-intrusive geophysical UXO survey, unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey, and naturally occurring radiological material (NORM) survey.
Under its Post Conflict Environment Management operations, Horizon renders services in humanitarian demining which includes manual clearance, establishing mechanical systems, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Stockpile Destruction, Rehabilitation, Restoration of Infrastructure, Victim Assistance, Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), and Capacity Development.
Horizon has also specialized in earth-moving operations and has the expertise to build low-cost accommodations for post-conflict rehabilitation.
Since 2006, Horizon has been responsible for imparting specialized training to security forces in various combat-related activities through its well-qualified pool of instructors. We have been providing specialized training in the detection, neutralization, disposal of IEDs and explosives, shooting, field craft, physical training, and unarmed combat for some of the most dignified security forces including the Maharashtra Police Force as well as the Indian Army. Moreover, we have been providing regular special demining training to the Indian Army Teams going overseas since 2006.
Additionally, Horizon has been delivering cutting-edge Turn-Key Security Solutions along with offering Security Advisory.
Moving ahead on its path of offering post-conflict environmental solutions, Horizon has also moved towards services like Telecommunication, Supply and Installation of Machinery & Modernization of Training Facilities, Creating training films in the field of combat engineering for the Indian Army, Project Management Consultancy, Water Sports Development and creating a Modular Floating System.
